Wedding on the Water

September 16, 2020

In the height of covid, two med school students decided it was time to tie the knot!

Masks were worn, traditions were had, and boats rides were taken!

Luke grew up in Sandpoint, where his parents still reside. And Addie has a very strong German heritage.

While they had to cut back on their guest list, they still managed to make every single part of their wedding day meaningful! The wedding was held at Luke’s parents house, on the water where Lake Pend Oreille turns into the Pend Oreille River.

The groom and groomsmen arrived in style, on a boat! The bride and bridesmaids got ready in a suite admiring the river view!

With Addie’s German heritage came lots of German traditions. My favorite was watching them saw a log together, dressed to the 9’s! The tradition of cutting the log represents the first obstacle that the couple must overcome in their marriage. And I think they did it in record time! There is also a tradition called polterabend where a piece of porcelain is smashed (usually in the bride and grooms driveway the evening prior), but for this wedding, Addie’s mom had the pleasure of breaking it!

I love strong traditions that are celebrated in people’s weddings.

I also adore adventurous couples, and though boating on your wedding day isn’t exactly “adventurous,” it’s not something everyone wants to do! So when they said yes to taking the boat out for a few pictures, I knew things were going to be absolutely epic!

I enjoyed this water front wedding probably as much as the bride and groom did! Sandpoint weddings on the water are extremely difficult to beat!
